Process Based ERP
Current State
There is some confusion about the relationship between ERP & BPM. This affects the ROI & productivity gains of customers and the level of success BPM & ERP vendors can achieve.
Magic
ERP vendors decide to build the future versions of their products on BPM platforms. When and if this happens, the long and hard implementation cycles will go away and enterprises will have business applications.
Enterprise Felxibility
Current State
ERP systems constrain enterprise flexibility because of embedded process and components designed for a specific solution.
Difficult to interface/orchestrate ERP systems from business processes model as current interfaces are note sufficient and are not designed as independent services.
The Outcome
ERP systems should be composed of business processes that invoke components designed for sharing in diverse contexts. Each component should be designed as a services that is internally driven by an explicit business process.
ERP vendors expose functionality as re-usable components via true SOA to enable business processes to be enhanced and span multiple systems.
A Layered Approach to BPM
Current State
People trying to do one level BPM used both to describe & implement the business.
The Outcome
A layered/connected approach that ties together the different levels of concerns of an enterprise—functional, organizational, IT implementation, IT configuration.
